The Work

The QA Automation Lead is a key member of the Digital Banking technology team responsible for leading the planning, design and execution of all software testing activities. They will work collaboratively within the IT department and other business units to ensure that the software is thoroughly tested and released with the highest quality possible. They will oversee analysis of project artifacts to identify test requirements, design and execute test scripts and participate in the defect process from reporting to monitoring to resolution. Testing will include system functional testing, conversion, integration and performance testing and support/counsel for business user acceptance testing.

The QA Automation Lead is part of a core, pod-based team from start to finish. They will strategize on how to test, plan, and execute software testing, and have a passion to drill down and figure out how things work and thrive in finding creative ways to break things during testing. They will triage defects, investigate root cause by reading logs, and find ways to improve efficiency through automation.

The core parts of your role would be to:

  • Review business requirements with the product owner and end users and clarify any ambiguity ensuring testing conditions are understood
  • Define test methods, create test plans to support, and perform various types of testing such as white-box, black-box testing, negative testing, customer scenario testing, stress testing, performance testing, scalability testing, regression testing and platform testing
  • Develop automated tests using Selenium Webdriver, QTP, TestComplete, SoupUI, or Postman to achieve maximum code coverage
  • Develop and execute test cases within the agreed upon timelines ensuring the application is performing as expected
  • Assess and escalate critical & high impact quality issues to the TDL, PM or Tech Director
  • Review test deliverables, manage defects and document test results
  • Participate in defect review meetings and provide analysis as required
  • Assist in the validation of newly created testing environments in coordination with vendors and IT
  • Troubleshoot and review logs/queues as required to analyze potential defects
  • Create status and progress reports and testing metrics as required
  • Support user acceptance testing phase
  • Produce and review metrics; overlay progress, cumulative flow, and quality to overall delivery
  • Design and implement automation frameworks, process optimization and advanced toolsets.
  • Implement new automation strategies, calculate and measure expected ROI and setup supporting teams and processes to maintain services in the long-term. Focus both in traditional and new areas of automation including: mobile, agile and advanced data automation
  • Provide accurate estimates for assigned task duration, along with confidence levels and foreseeable dependencies
  • Follow prescribed change control procedures, making sure all changes are properly documented, approved and communicated
  • Mentor, coach and train existing and new team members

Additional Nice to Have Skills:
  • Strong skills in using JIRA + Confluence + Zephyr
  • Previous experience working with Core Banking Systems such as Temenos T24
  • Working towards CSTB Advanced Technical Test Analyst (TTA)

Let's Talk About You:

  • University degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering and/or equivalent degree or business related experience
  • Demonstrated and solid understanding & experience with Behavior-Driven Development (BDD) or Test-Driven Development (TDD)
  • Understanding of Java, JavaScript and the ability to write code from scratch would be a bonus
  • Experience writing SQL statements and database testing skills
  • 8+ years’ experience with test plan preparation and test case execution preferably in the financial industry
  • Good understanding of SDLC and of Agile/Scrum software development process
  • Ability to analyze and understand issues of a technical nature
  • Strong aptitude for learning new technologizes
  • Ability to interact effectively within a cross functional team
  • Managerial leadership capabilities

The incumbent will be working hybrid and in office time will be spent working from Equitable Bank’s additional office space located at 351 King Street East, Toronto, ON.
